EnCOAR (Enhancing the Care of​ the Older Adult) is a research team at KITE Research Institute, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network.

Our mission is to develop evidence based interventions to improve the quality of care provided to older adults, optimize the work environment of their formal caregivers, and enhance healthcare system efficiency.

  • With clinicians, policy decision makers, and persons with lived experience we have worked on understanding, developing and evaluating models of care that are person centred that enhance the effectiveness and appropriateness of care for older adults in multiple settings.

  • We have been working with a team of researchers focused on identifying and intervening to optimize the workforce of staff in LTC homes.

  • Our team has focused on how staffs’ approaches and their ability to conduct hearing and vision screening can influence older adults’ outcomes, especially those with cognitive impairment

  • We have been working with a team of researchers and knowledge users (Ontario Association of Residents’ Councils, Family Councils Ontario and Behavioural Supports Ontario) to summarize research on the health impacts of social connection for LTC residents and strategies to build and maintain social connection during COVID-19.
